Tropical Water Lily Flowers
Water lilies are the most beautiful flowers in aquatic gardens. They belong to genus Nymphaea. This genus name is the Greek word for water nymph. According legend, the plant originated from a nymph who died of jealousy through love of Hercules. They come in just about every shade, from white, pink, and yellow to purple, blue, and red. Night-blooming tropical water lilies have flowers that open from dusk to mid-morning. Day-bloomers have just the opposite schedule: from mid-day to dusk. These are pictures of tropical water lilies from the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis, Missouri.
